Philosophy as practice, a way of being
A way of life is a state of being, a daily exercise, or as Hadot puts it, “spiritual exercise”, therefore wisdom was considered as a way of life in that “real wisdom does not merely cause us to know but further than that, it makes us “be” in a different way” (1995:265). Hadot states that “wisdom then, was a way of life which brought peace of mind, inner freedom, and a cosmic consciousness” (1995:265).
